At Texas Certified Restoration, we’ve received many calls from worried homeowners whose homes were struck by water damage while they were out of town. And this project was one of those cases. When our client returned from a trip, they found their home devastated due to a burst washing machine supply line. They needed fast and professional help, and our team responded immediately to begin water damage mitigation in Pflugerville, TX.

Burst Washing Machine Supply Line Damage: Our Assessment

The first and most important step of any project is a thorough assessment. We inspected all rooms inside this home using moisture meters to determine the full extent of the damage. The affected areas included the bedroom, bathroom, garage, entryway, hallway, laundry room, and bedroom closet. Water had spread quickly, soaking laminate flooring, drywall, insulation, baseboards, and carpets. The garage ceiling had also sustained significant water damage and needed extra attention.

Water Damage Mitigation: What Are the Steps We Took

Having thoroughly assessed the room, we began the mitigation process:

Water Extraction and Removal

Even though there wasn’t any standing water, the carpets from several rooms absorbed a lot of moisture. So, we first removed all carpets to gain complete access to the floors. This step was necessary to prevent further damage and water absorption and to reduce the risk of mold growth.

Material Removal

To make sure every corner of the home was completely dry, we did the following:

  • Laminate Flooring: We carefully removed all laminate flooring throughout the home, as it was too water-damaged to be salvaged.
  • Baseboards: We also needed to pull out baseboards in the bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, and hallway to prevent further moisture buildup.
  • Drywall and Insulation: In the garage, we pulled out the wet drywall and insulation, exposing the wooden studs to allow for complete drying.

Drying and Monitoring

We spread out our air movers and high-power dehumidifiers throughout each room, running them continuously for several days. Each day, we had a member of our team check the moisture levels to ensure steady progress. By tracking the drying process, we made sure that no hidden moisture remained, which could lead to long-term damage.

Project Completed

After a few days, the entire home was fully dry and ready for the next steps in the restoration process. We provided the homeowner with documentation of the moisture levels before and after our mitigation work, giving them peace of mind that their home was safe from lingering water damage.
