At Texas Certified Restoration, we’re here when homeowners need us most. Flooding can happen fast and leave serious damage behind. That’s exactly what happened to one homeowner in Copperas Cove, TX, after heavy rain caused a flash flooding disaster in their home. The water entered through the garage and spread quickly into several rooms. In this case study, we’ll show you how we responded to the emergency, worked through unexpected challenges, and helped restore the home step by step with our expert flood damage mitigation in Copperas Cove.

When the Homeowner Reported the Flooding Disaster

After a sudden rainstorm, we got a call from a local homeowner in Copperas Cove. Water had rushed in through the garage and soaked multiple areas of the home, including the garage, kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and nearby closets. We responded quickly to assess the situation and begin flood damage mitigation.

The homeowner had already started noticing water pooling in different areas. Wet carpets and baseboards were just a few of the signs. The situation was urgent, and we knew that the only way to save this home from further damage was to get to work immediately.

The Steps We Took In the Process

Here’s how our expert team approached this project:

Initial Assessment and Equipment Setup

We arrived quickly and started by inspecting every affected room. Water had reached the walls, baseboards, carpets, and flooring. We used moisture meters to determine how deeply the water had spread. Our equipment showed signs of moisture present in the walls and flooring, which was no surprise considering all the carpets were soaked and the materials absorbed the water.

This is what we concluded from our initial inspection:

  • Carpets: The carpets were wet, so we vacuumed the excess water from them and removed them to be able to dry all surfaces under them.
  • Walls: Moisture meters signaled moisture in the walls, but luckily, we didn’t need to perform any demo, we managed to dry them with our advanced equipment.
  • Flooring: The floors in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and closet had to be removed because they were too water-damaged.

After this, we placed the air movers and dehumidifiers throughout the affected rooms to dry them completely and extract moisture from walls, baseboards, and flooring.

Return Visit and Monitoring

The next day, we came back to monitor the drying progress. Unfortunately, more rain had caused flooding again, so we had to adjust the plan. Some equipment was removed, and some stayed in place to continue drying. We kept track of moisture levels in the walls and flooring to make sure everything was improving.

Flooring Removal and Demo

Once the drying was under control, the homeowner asked us to remove the damaged flooring in the master bedroom, closets, and living room.

Later, we also removed the rest of the flooring in the kitchen and the living room. After we completed the demolition, we cleaned everything thoroughly using HEPA vacuums to remove dirt and dust particles.

Final Equipment Removal

After the space was dry and clean, we removed all remaining equipment. Moisture readings showed that the walls, subfloor, and air humidity were back to safe levels. We double-checked all rooms to make sure nothing was missed and walked through everything with the homeowner.
