Preventing a Disaster in a Round Rock Home after an HVAC Leak in the Hallway

At Texas Certified Restoration, we recently helped a local homeowner recover from an HVAC leak that affected the hallway of their home. We quickly jumped into action to help them out and prevent further damage with our expert water damage restoration in Round Rock, TX. Keep on reading to find out how we recovered this home!

When the Homeowner Discovered the HVAC Leak

We got a call from a homeowner who noticed the floor in their hallway felt soft and was starting to buckle. After taking a closer look, they also saw signs of water damage along the baseboards and drywall. The source turned out to be a leak from their HVAC unit. The water had been dripping slowly over time, soaking into the laminate flooring and creeping up the walls.

They weren’t sure how long the water had been sitting there, but they knew it wasn’t something they could fix on their own. Our crew arrived the same day to assess the situation and start the mitigation process.

Tackling the Leak: Our Thorough Mitigation Approach

Our goal is always to act fast, dry the affected areas completely, and make sure the home is safe before we leave. Here's how we tackled this job:

Inspecting the Leak Damage and Moisture

We started by using moisture meters to find out exactly how far the water had spread. We checked the flooring, drywall, and baseboards. This helped us make a clear plan for what needed to be removed and dried out.

Removing Affected Materials

After the inspection, we got to work removing the materials that had taken on water. We determined that the drywall wasn’t as extensive and we didn’t need to perform any demo. However, the flooring and baseboards were more severely damaged. Here’s what we did:

  • Laminate Flooring: We took out about 16.2 by 6.9 feet of soaked laminate flooring to prevent further damage and allow airflow underneath.
  • Baseboards: We removed roughly 11 feet of baseboards along both sides of the hallway so we could dry behind the walls.

Setting Up Drying Equipment

With the damaged materials removed, we set up four high-powered air movers and one commercial-grade dehumidifier. The air movers helped push moisture out of the surfaces, while the dehumidifier pulled that moisture out of the air to keep everything drying evenly and safely.

Keeping Track of the Progress

Over the next few days, we came back to monitor how things were drying. We used our moisture meters to check the floors, and walls behind the drywall. Once everything showed safe and dry levels, we pulled the equipment and let the homeowner know the space was clear and ready for the next step.

Another Job Done Right

This Round Rock homeowner was relieved to know the damage had been fully handled and that there was no hidden moisture left behind. By acting quickly and following a clear process, we helped protect their home from future problems like mold or structural damage. It’s always satisfying to know we made a difference and left someone’s home better than we found it.
